Catalyst: A turtle seemed to be a natural subject for the cellular patterns that are common to images formed with layers of matboard. Finding an appropriate subject on the web was the easy part.
Challenge: The accounting problem of keeping track of what colors should appear at certain layers was the principal challenge. In early versions of this piece the colors really didn’t behave well and the design had to be reworked.
