Catalyst: Gothic craftsmen worked in stone to create iconic forms that shaped the light. The paisley shape (or is it an angel) often dominates the theme.
Challenge: My earliest experiment with repeating patterns. Perhaps awkward, but a stimulant for finding a better tool to rotate a portion of a design.
