Catalyst: A Mandela, a geometric configuration of symbols, is a common theme among laser artists and paper quillers. A good example of 3D laser cutting is the Mandela found on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1203711248/3d-layered-wooden-mandala, but a Google search of “3D layered Mandela” yields an abundance of images.
Challenge: Repetition of components of a design should be easier than it turned out to be. But the larger challenge was to determine when each layer should be introduced into the design. This is just one solution. Later I used this piece to test again cropping the larger image into an exploded section.
